Rams' Fisher 'almost out of answers' for offense's struggles
The St. Louis Rams have failed to score more than 18 points in their past fives games, and with their season all but over, head coach Jeff Fisher is running out of reasons as to why his offense is playing so poorly.
The Rams' offense managed just three points in Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals, their fifth straight loss, a week after scoring seven points against the Cincinnati Bengals.
"Coach is almost out of answers," Fisher said, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "My responsibility is to say, 'Hey, I'm gonna get this thing fixed.' I mean, we're not efficient on offense."
The Rams are not without talent on offense. Rookie running back Todd Gurley may have struggled of late, but he is still a franchise-caliber player. Wide receiver Tavon Austin has emerged as a consistent threat all over the field, and wide receiver Kenny Britt and tight end Jared Cook are solid weapons.
Fisher knows the talent his offense possesses, which makes their struggles all the more frustrating.
"We've got guys that can produce," Fisher said. "We have an outstanding running back and we have a dynamic receiver. We're starting to get a little bit better on the offensive line, and so we'll keep working. But it has to get better. It's not good."
Gurley, who has failed to rush for 100 yards in five consecutive games, echoed the message of his head coach.
"Everybody's disappointed, frustrated, embarrassed," he said, according to Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
If Fisher can't get the offense rolling in the remaining weeks of the season, there will be questions about his future with the team in the upcoming offseason.
