Iowa to meet Stanford in Rose Bowl, Ohio State faces Notre Dame in Fiesta Bowl

The College Football Playoff selection committee rounded out the New Year's Six by announcing the major bowl games that will take place over New Year's Eve and Day.

Christian McCaffrey and Stanford will have to deal with Iowa in the Rose Bowl, while Ole Miss will take on Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl. Both games will take place on New Year's Day.

Meanwhile, Ohio State and Notre Dame will clash in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day and Houston meets Florida State in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Eve.

North Carolina is the odd team out, as finishing 10th wasn't enough to see them reach a major bowl game.

It will be interesting to see how McCaffrey handles a stout Hawkeye defense on the big stage. The Stanford running back has done it all this season while breaking Barry Sanders' all-purpose yardage mark, but Iowa is only giving up 18.5 points per game.

The Rebels will be trying to reach 10 wins for the first time since 2003 against a Cowboys squad that has something to prove. Oklahoma State was 10-0 before two straight losses knocked them out of contention from the playoff.

In arguably the best matchup of the entire bowl season, the Fighting Irish will take on the Buckeyes. If not for a pair of heartbreaking losses to Clemson and Stanford, Notre Dame could have been the No. 1 team today and Ohio State narrowly missed a perfect season thanks to a defeat at the hands of Michigan State.

Tom Herman and Co. will get a chance to prove they belong with the big boys when Houston takes on Power 5 juggernaut Florida State.
