Report: Mets looking at Fowler to bolster outfield

The New York Mets have identified a potential backup plan should they miss out on signing top target Ben Zobrist.

Dexter Fowler is someone who the Mets continue to look at as a possibility for their outfield, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Though, Zobrist remains the focus at the moment.

Despite making a World Series run, the Mets aren't expected to covet a top-tier free-agent outfielder, despite a number of big names on the market. The 29-year-old Fowler definitely fits into the second tier of available outfielders, and is coming off a strong season that landed him a qualifying offer from the Chicago Cubs.

Fowler slashed .250/.346/.411 with a career-high 17 home runs in 156 games, while also stealing 20 bases.
