Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant confirmed to the basketball world on Sunday evening that the ongoing 2015-16 campaign will be his last in the NBA.
The announcement via the Players Tribune came just hours before the team was set to hit the floor at home against the surging 10-5 Indiana Pacers.
Upon entry to the Staples Center, fans in attendance were handed a sealed envelope containing a letter from Bryant himself on his pending retirement:

Why did Kobe write a letter for the fans tonight?
"They’ve got to know how much they’ve meant to me."

Teammate Metta World Peace - who won a championship with Bryant in 2010 - also received a copy of the letter. "I'm so happy I got a chance to witness this," he said.
