Connor McDavid is indeed on track for an early recovery.

The prized rookie is ahead of schedule as he rehabilitates a broken clavicle, Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed Saturday.

A report emerged a day earlier suggesting the rookie could be back in the lineup as soon as mid-to-late January from an injury that was initially believed to keep McDavid off the ice for several months.

Chiarelli added that McDavid will meet up with the Oilers when they visit Toronto on Monday, but did not offer a firm timetable for a return to the ice.

The 18-year-old recorded five goals and seven assists in his first 13 NHL games before suffering the injury on Nov. 3.
