Twisted Takes: Should Osweiler remain Broncos' starter when Manning is healthy?

The Denver Broncos are nearing a very difficult decision: Stick with the young buck who's a better fit in their offense, or go back to the aging star who's shown signs of wear and tear? The Broncos are built to win now, making this the most important question in town:

Should Brock Osweiler remain the Broncos' starter when Peyton Manning is healthy?

Gino Bottero: Peyton conservatively ranks among the top 3 quarterbacks of all time. Let's not jump the gun and bench a Super Bowl winner and five-time MVP for a second-round pick who's thrown 123 passes in the league.

David P. Woods: Manning's history is hardly relevant to the Broncos' quest for a Super Bowl this season. Osweiler may not be half the passer Manning was in his prime, but he's the better player at this moment because of his superior physical skills and preferable style of play.

Bottero: What Peyton lacks in arm strength, he makes up for with football knowledge. He's able to dissect a defense like no quarterback ever has. There's value in having an extra coordinator on the field that can make adjustments at the line of scrimmage.

Woods: There's no doubt the cerebral aspect of Manning's game is unmatched, but it's of little value when his broken-down body can't make the throws his eyes and brain see. Osweiler has learned under Manning for several years now, so there's reason to believe he's soaked up some of Manning's pre-snap acumen.

Bottero: Osweiler's being treated like he's accomplished something. The Broncos averaged 174.5 rushing yards in his two starts compared to 86.0 yards per game with Peyton under center. It's on Gary Kubiak to find a way to make the ground game work.

Woods: But Osweiler is a big part of why the running game is working. Manning was always an awkward fit in Kubiak's scheme. Osweiler, on the other hand, has opened things up for Ronnie Hillman and the resurgent C.J. Anderson.

Bottero: The Broncos started the season 7-0, so let's not take Peyton out behind the barn just yet. This Broncos team is built to win a Super Bowl now. If they trot out a quarterback with fewer than a dozen starts to his name while a future Hall of Famer rides the pine and it doesn't work, heads are going to roll.

Woods: The team is 2-0 with Osweiler as starter and headed toward a likely AFC West title. The offense looks more well-rounded than it has all season and better equipped to win games in the cold, where Manning always struggled even when healthy. It appears the coaches and front office are aligned behind Osweiler. It would be irrational to make a move out of reverence to one player, even if he is (or was) an all-time great.
