Iowa State's Paul Rhoads to be dismissed after final game Saturday
Iowa State's disaster season is almost over for Paul Rhoads, who was informed Sunday the final game of season will be his last with the Cyclones.
Athletic director Jamie Pollard made the call, saying Rhoads will be on the sidelines in Saturday's season finale against West Virginia. The move comes a day after the Cyclones coughed up two touchdowns in the last 42 seconds to lose 38-35 to Kansas State.
With the loss, Iowa State fell to 3-8 on the season, including 2-6 in conference play. Over the course of his tenure that began in 2009, Rhoads compiled a 32-54 record.
After posting a winning season (7-6) in his first year, the Cyclones haven't enjoyed another winning season since.
Over the past three seasons, the program has only managed to scrounge together eight combined wins, including zero conference wins last season.
The Big 12 now joins every other Power 5 conference with at least one coaching vacancy, as well as making this the 12th FBS coaching job up for grabs.
