Luis Enrique hails Barcelona's 'glorious' victory in El Clasico
Four goals, a clean sheet, and the return of Lionel Messi made for a memorable Saturday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu, a game Barcelona will not soon forget.
Boss Luis Enrique laid down the superlatives to describe the 4-0 victory, which featured a brace from Luis Suarez and goals from Neymar and Andres Iniesta.
"This victory is glorious, especially in the way that it came about," Enrique said after the match. "It has been an all round performance. It will go down in history as a memorable game for the Blaugranes."
Barcelona won everywhere on the pitch, even in goal. Claudio Bravo made seven saves, diving all over and asserting his authority in the box.
"You can win at Bernabeu, but being so superior, against such good players, is difficult. Throughout game we did what we'd planned," the manager added.
Enrique was even able to sub in Messi, who spent the past eight weeks recovering from a knee injury.
But the match was finished by then, his appearance merely a footnote. Teammates Suarez and Neymar kept up their scoring streaks, with Iniesta supplying an assist to the Brazilian before scoring a wonderful goal of his own.
It was also the first time either Barcelona or Madrid posted a shutout in the last 19 Clasicos.
"We only wanted to be ourselves and we have done that," Iniesta said. “We neutralised Madrid.”
