Washington Wizards forward Martell Webster underwent surgery to repair an injured labrum and damaged cartilage in his right hip, the team announced Friday.

The team also confirmed Webster will miss the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old has not played this campaign, and will forfeit more than $3 million in salary as a result of missing more time on top of his multitude of ailments throughout his 10-year career. Wizards brass included a requirement that he play in 180 games over the first three seasons of his four-year, $22-million contract in order for the final year to be fully guaranteed.

As a member of the Wizards in 2014, Webster underwent yet another procedure to fix a herniated disk in his lower back. Consequently, he was limited to 32 contests in 2014-15.

Selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2005 draft, the Seattle product went straight from high school to the NBA, landing with the Portland Trail Blazers and was the picture of health for the first three seasons of his career.

He missed all but one game in the 2008-09 campaign due to a foot injury.

Webster then spent two injury-marred seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, playing in only 46 and 47 games, respectively, due to consecutive back surgeries.

He has talked about retiring by the age of 30 in the past.
