Report: NFL expected to allow teams to trade compensatory draft picks

The NFL is reportedly set to make a rule change that will alter the way the trade market takes shape ahead of next spring's draft.

Adjusting a long-standing regulation, the league is expected to allow teams to begin trading compensatory draft selections, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Compensatory picks, awarded based on players acquired and lost during free agency in the year prior, have previously been off limits when it comes to negotiations between teams.

With more assets to move, whether that's to land a veteran player or acquire a package of other picks on draft day, a substantial increase in trades can certainly be expected this year.

The NFL handed out 32 compensatory selections ahead of last year's draft, with 14 clubs adding at least one pick and three different teams receiving a total of four.
