Douglas Costa's dominant performance lifts Brazil past Peru
Propelled by Douglas Costa's superb performance, Brazil returned to its winning ways Tuesday in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying with a decisive 3-0 win over Peru.
After opening the scoring with a tap-in from the goal line, the Bayern Munich winger played an integral role in the second half to give Brazil a three-goal advantage.
Costa inspired the second goal by putting on a dribbling clinic that drew in several defenders, then laying off a pass to Renato Augusto for the unmarked finish at the top of the box.
Costa was at it again minutes later, only this time, he was eager to score a second. His shot on goal, however, produced a rebound that fell to Filipe Luis' feet for the close-range tally.
The victory gives Brazil seven points through four matches, good enough for a third-place tie with Chile and Paraguay.
