Cruyff quits role as Ajax advisor because club 'deliberately' ignored him

Johan Cruyff has resigned from his position as an advisor to Ajax, claiming the club where he made his debut 51 years ago has "deliberately" ignored his philosophy on football.

"For years and years now I see that the essential points of my vision are being ignored at Ajax," Cruyff wrote in his weekly column in De Telegraaf newspaper.

"Furthermore I have the feeling that this is happening deliberately. And I don't want to play games."

The 68-year-old is currently fighting lung cancer, but it's the current power struggle at Ajax - not his condition - that led to his departure.

Just last week, the Dutch champions fired former Netherlands international Wim Jonk as its head of youth development, which is one of Cruyff's main areas of interest.

Cryuff added that board members at Ajax, where he won eight league titles and three European Cups as a player, have changed the club for the worse.

"I hope that we can make Ajax like Ajax again. Maybe by buying all the shares or something. So that we can go back to our club culture with a president who knows who to support."

He did have a bit of good news to share, confirming he has concluded his first round of cancer treatment without "any backlashes."
