The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender allowed New York Rangers forward Derek Stepan to score from just over center ice in the second period Sunday.

Stepan said an NBA matinee between the New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans earlier in the day inspired him to test the ice conditions.

Joffrey Lupul got Bernier off the hook later in the period, scoring his seventh goal of the season to tie the game 2-2.
