DFS: Don't Believe the Hype - Week 10 Edition

There were some big weeks by surprise names in Week 9. Buying in could very well derail hopes of winning big in Week 10. Buyer beware the following:

QB Derek Carr and WR Michael Crabtree, Raiders (vs. Vikings)

Carr has thrown 11 touchdowns over his past three games. He's the real deal and will be an excellent cash game pick going forward. It is still a good idea to look elsewhere in Week 10. After his flurry of success, his ownership should be up. Against the Vikings, he and Crabtree aren't ideal.

Minnesota hasn't allowed 300 yards in the air in any game this season, and has only surrendereed nine passing touchdowns. Like the entire team, Minnesota's defense is severely underrated. Carr and Crabtree will both have career-best seasons, but Week 10 will not make much of an impression.

QB Marcus Mariota, Titans (vs. Panthers)

Mariota's health has been a concern all season and he rewarded those willing to take a chance on him in Week 9. Healthy or banged up, he should be faded against the Panthers. Aaron Rodgers is the only QB to have considerable success against Carolina - Luke McCown threw for 310 yards but managed only an INT and no TDs for his efforts.

While Mariota's price will still be alluring, why take the risk? The odds that he repeats his best performances is too low and, despite his solid play, Tennessee's receivers do not instill any confidence. Look elsewhere at QB.

RB Jeremy Langford, Bears (at Rams)

Langford filled in nicely for Matt Forte - 72 rushing yards and a TD - and he is relatively inexpensive at the position going into Week 10. If Forte plays, he's absolutely a no go. Even if Forte doesn't, he's too much of a wild card to trust.

There is a handful of reliable RBs who have comparable prices with greater upside like T.J. Yeldon or Giovani Bernard. With his good game, his ownership will probably spike, making him a poor choice in GPPs.
