Report: Manchester United considers January swoop for Ayoze Perez

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has become a regular in the Magpies' lineup at the tender age of 22, and his potential has turned heads at Manchester United, according to The Telegraph.

North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the Tenerife native, but United is the alleged front-runner as Louis van Gaal searches for someone to convert more chances for his shot-shy team.

The Spaniard scored the only goal in Newcastle's 1-0 away win at Bournemouth on Saturday, and his breakout season last term had Manchester City assistant Brian Kidd sniffing around St James' Park.

Perez cost Newcastle a measly £1.7 million when he was plucked from Spanish Second Division obscurity 16 months ago, but given his impressive adjustment to the English game, the Tyneside outfit would stand to turn a significant profit.

This is far from a done deal, though. Steve McClaren is reluctant to deplete his striking ranks, as he is also looking to strengthen that position in January. Adam Armstrong, who has scored 12 goals in 14 games for League One's Coventry City this season, could have his loan deal cut short by his parent club as Newcastle tries to find more firepower.
