Watson propels Clemson past Florida State

Joshua S. Kelly / USA TODAY Sports

In a low-scoring affair that featured a pair of stout defenses, Clemson and Deshaun Watson out-dueled Florida State to a 23-13 victory. The No. 1 Tigers remain unbeaten and the loss likely ends the Seminoles' shot at a national title.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Watson threw for 297 yards and ran for 107 yards. He set career highs in rushing yardage, completions, and attempts.
  • The Tigers are 9-0 for the first time since 1981, when they won the national title.
  • Wayne Gallman rushed for 103 yards and a score for Clemson.
  • Jordan Leggett came through for the Tigers in the receiving game, catching six passes for more than 100 yards.
  • Clemson didn't escape unscathed, though, as offensive guard Tyrone Crowder and receiver Ray-Ray McCloud were lost to injuries.
  • The Tigers clinched the ACC Atlantic with the victory.
  • Sean Maguire got the start over Everett Golson at quarterback for the Seminoles. After a strong game last week versus Syracuse, Maguire managed only 165 yards and a pick versus the Tigers.
  • Jimbo Fisher and company were doomed by an ugly 2-of-12 performance on third down.
  • Florida State running back Dalvin Cook ran for 194 yards in a losing cause.
