The Green Bay Packers are demoting Eddie Lacy.
Speaking Wednesday about his plans to divide carries between his running backs, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said: "I would say James (Starks) is our No. 1 back going into Detroit. He's earned that opportunity."
Starks has outplayed the slow and plodding Lacy this season, in part because Lacy has battled ankle and groin injuries.
Starks is averaging 4.3 yards per carry to Lacy's 3.7 and has provided more value in the passing game.
McCarthy made it clear the Packers still plan to use a one-two punch, so Lacy will get some touches.
