Jrue Holiday restricted in back-to-backs, out Tuesday against Warriors
New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday will not play in Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Golden State Warriors, with the team citing rest.
Holiday is scheduled to play Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers, and it appears that for the time being the Pelicans will restrict him from playing in back-to-backs. The 25-year-old's minutes restriction has also been raised to 20 minutes a game early in the season, after new coach Alvin Gentry placed the number at 15 during training camp.
Holiday is coming off a stress reaction in his right leg that limited him to 40 games last season.
The Pelicans will be noticeably undermanned Tuesday with six players on the shelf. In addition to Holiday, Tyreke Evans and Norris Cole are out indefinitely, constituting three-fifths of what was envisioned as their backcourt rotation.
Nate Robinson will start Tuesday in Holiday's place.
