DFS: Week 8 NFL Combo Plays
Daily fantasy owners will be without the services of the QB Blake Bortles and WRs Allen Robinson/Allen Hurns combo plays in Week 8, but they won't have to frustrate themselves with the QB Sam Bradford and WR Jordan Matthews option. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Redskins are on byes this week.
Additionally, the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots play the Week 8 Thursday night game, and the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs will have the early North American start time. All four of these teams are also removed from the primary DFS slate.
Here are the best bets from Week 8's diminished talent pool:
Best Bets

- Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr., Giants (at Saints)
- Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals (at Browns)
Here are some options to consider for use in GPPs, as they'll likely have lower ownership percentages:

Brian Hoyer and DeAndre Hopkins, Texans (vs. Titans)
Hopkins remains on pace for a grand total of 233 targets this season. While he didn't see a dip in those numbers with RB Arian Foster in the lineup for the past four games, he won't need to split work with him moving forward.
The combination of RBs Alfred Blue and Chris Polk have already proven they're incapable of filling Foster's shoes. Hoyer has thrown three touchdowns in each of his past two games, with two of those going to Foster. Someone will need to make up for the lost production, and Hopkins is the only player capable of doing so on the Texans roster.
Here's a breakdown of the Titans' pass defense in rankings form:
ATT | CMP | YDS/A | TD |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 27 | T11 |
The Titans have allowed fewer passing yards than every team but the Denver Broncos, but they're still bottom 10 in terms of yards allowed per attempt. Since the Texans won't be able to run all over the Titans as other teams have this season, they'll look to exploit the poor, yet untested, Titans secondary.

Philip Rivers and Keenan Allen, Chargers (at Ravens)
Here's how opposing quarterbacks and their respective No. 1 pass-catchers have fared against the Ravens this season:
Week | Quarterback | Wide Receiver | Total Fantasy Points |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Peyton Manning | Emmanuel Sanders | 21.5 |
2 | Derek Carr | Michael Crabtree | 51.14 |
3 | Andy Dalton | A.J. Green | 71.02 |
4 | Mike Vick | Antonio Brown | 18.16 |
5 | Josh McCown | Gary Barnidge | 54.18 |
6 | Colin Kaepernick | Anquan Boldin | 36.8 |
7 | Carson Palmer | John Brown | 35.5 |
Discounting the games started by Vick and Manning, the Ravens have permitted QBs to finish with a top-12 fantasy week every week this season. They allowed McCown to finish No. 1, Dalton to finish No. 2, and Carr to finish No. 3.
Crabtree and Green each finished as top 10 receivers in their matchups against the Ravens. Barnidge would've been tied for the No. 1 receiver in Week 5, if he played the position. He instead finished as the week's No. 3 tight end.
Allen leads Chargers receivers in every category other than yards per reception, and he'll once again be the primary beneficiary of Rivers' pass-heavy offense.

Jay Cutler and Alshon Jeffery, Bears (vs. Vikings)
Jeffery has 23 receptions, 384 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his previous two complete games against Minnesota.
The Vikings are allowing 11 targets and 82 yards per game to No. 1 receivers this season, according to FootballOutsiders.com. Those rank 31st and 22nd in the league, respectively.
Jeffery has only played two games this season, but he has received 11 targets in each. He is coming off a 147-yard, one touchdown game against the Detroit Lions, and he seems to be back to full health.
Others to Consider:
- Andy Dalton and Marvin Jones, Bengals (at Steelers)
- Ryan Fitzpatrick and Eric Decker, Jets (at Raiders)
- Teddy Bridgewater and Stefon Diggs, Vikings (at Bears)
