All Jacob deGrom has done on the biggest stage is win.

The New York Mets right-hander picked up his third victory in as many postseason starts on Tuesday, following his team's 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the NLCS.

DeGrom scattered a pair of early solo home runs, while striking out seven over as many innings, to leave the Mets one win away from reaching the World Series for the first time since the Subway Series in 2000.

"Hopefully we can win it tomorrow and get some days off heading into the World Series," deGrom said after the game.

Following a third-inning homer by Jorge Soler, deGrom buckled down and retired the next 11 batters he faced before handing the ball to the bullpen to start the eighth.

DeGrom now has 27 strikeouts over his first three starts, the 4th most by any pitcher through three career postseason games. Only Hall of Famer Bob Gibson (31), Tim Lincecum (29) and Jake Arrieta (28) recorded more.

Another solid outing from the rotation has become routine for the Mets' pitching staff, who have kept the opposition in check throughout the series. The Cubs have scored just five runs over the first three games, and have yet to hold a lead.

"They pitched well. There is no other way to slice it, cut it, describe it. They have pitched well," manager Joe Maddon said. "They've had command of their secondary pitches, really good command of their secondary pitches."

The Cubs will look to try and become just the second team in history to come back from a 3-0 deficit when they resume their series Wednesday in Game 4 at Wrigley Field.
