Flyers' Neuvirth records NHL-best 3rd shutout in win over Jets

Michal Neuvirth is proving to be quite the free agent signing for Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall.

The 27-year-old Czech netminder stopped all 28 shots against Saturday in Winnipeg, propelling the Flyers to a 3-0 win over the Jets, and earning his league-leading third shutout of the season.

Brought in on a two-year, $3.25-million contract seemingly with a view towards serving as Steve Mason's backup, Neuvirth has put together a winning record of 3-2-1 in eight appearances for the Flyers, giving up only 13 goals on 237 shots for a save percentage of .954.

Neuvirth's performance has been much better than that of Mason, whose record sits at 2-4-2 with a .902 save percentage.

His previous two shutouts came against Florida and Chicago, and he's certainly putting himself in line to earn more starts than expected moving forward.

Philadelphia's goals were scored by Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, and Matt Read.
