Murph-tober continues with record-setting HR in Game 2
The Chicago Cubs may have to consider walking Daniel Murphy for the remainder of the NLCS.
The New York Mets second baseman has now homered in a franchise-record four straight postseason games with his first-inning blast off Cubs starter Jake Arrieta in Game 2.

The two-run shot increased Murphy's homer total to five, which breaks the franchise mark for the most in a single postseason.
Murphy is now 10-for-28 (.357) with five homers and eight RBIs through his first seven career playoff games.
"I was saving the homers, I guess," Murphy joked after the 4-1 win. "If I knew what I was doing, I would have hit more homers during the regular season."
Even more impressive, Murphy's five blasts have come off some of the top hurlers in the majors:
SERIES | PITCHER | INNING | SITUATION |
---|---|---|---|
NLCS G2 | Jake Arrieta | 1st | NYM 3-0 |
NLCS G1 | Jon Lester | 1st | NYM 1-0 |
NLDS G5 | Zack Greinke | 6th | NYM 3-2 |
NLDS G4 | Clayton Kershaw | 4th | LAD 3-1 |
NLDS G1 | Clayton Kershaw | 4th | NYM 1-0 |
"He likes to be on the big stage," Mets manager Terry Collins said postgame. "Sometimes on this team, you can get overshadowed by all the stars that are here. There's been a host of guys that have come through here, but Dan Murphy has been that one steady guy that you look up, he plays hard."
Cubs reliever Jason Motte's reaction to Murphy's historic homer, which gave the Mets a 3-0 lead, perhaps says it all.
Murphy can tie Carlos Beltran's major-league record by homering in a fifth straight playoff game on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.
