DFS: Why You Should Always Roster an NBA Stud

Mark D. Smith / US PRESSWIRE

In NBA DFS, rostering a stud should be the principle of your lineup.

Studs rarely struggle in games and consistently record the majority of their teams points, providing you with viable fantasy points. Here are three reasons you should roster a stud:

Studs Score the Most Points

The majority of a team's points are recorded by a player who is the team's number one scoring option. Pelicans PF Anthony Davis, Rockets SF James Harden and Kings C DeMarcus Cousins will give you immediate help in cash games.

Variance is key to sustaining a successful lineup; choosing different studs at different positions each night that play weak defenses such as the Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves or the Los Angeles Lakers is a sure-fire way to receive a return on investment.

Studs Play the Most Minutes

With Thunder SF Kevin Durant sidelined for the majority of last season, PG Russell Westbrook saw an huge increase in court time and overall production, resulting in a league-leading 27.8 PPG to go with 11 triple-doubles.

Cavaliers superstar LeBron James recorded the second-most minutes last year and dominated in almost every area of the game. The more playing time a stud gets, the greater the possibility he records a bundle of fantasy points.

Studs Rarely Struggle

NBA studs will rarely record sub-10 point games. With a little research, you will learn to realize when the time is right to fade a stud but most times, it's because the player had a bad night.

For example, a stud may perform poorly against a certain team or may be a slow starter at the beginning of a season, leading you to fade the star until you see his production rise. Finding these discrepancies will be vital to your success.

Here is a list of five studs and the amount of times they recorded sub-10-point games last season:

NAME TEAM MPG <10 PT GMS
LeBron James Cavaliers 36.1 0
Russell Westbrook Thunder 34.4 0
DeMarcus Cousins Kings 34.1 0
James Harden Rockets 36.8 2
Stephen Curry Warriors 32.7 2

Studs are consistent point producers; roster them with confidence as the basis for any cash-game or tournament lineup.
