Seattle Sounders brush aside Real Salt Lake to qualify for playoffs

Reuters

The Seattle Sounders clinched a spot in the MLS postseason with a 3-1 victory over Real Salt Lake at CenturyLink Field.

Goals from Clint Dempsey and Marco Pappa saw the Sounders through on a night when they competed against Sporting Kansas City, the Portland Timbers, and the San Jose Earthquakes for the three remaining postseason berths.

And, while Luis Gil put one back for RSL, it wasn't enough to halt the Sounders' march into the MLS postseason. With the win, Seattle finished fourth in the Western Conference with 51 points and will host the LA Galaxy in the first round.
