Chelsea manager Mourinho brands £50,000 FA fine 'a disgrace'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is none too pleased with being sanctioned by the Football Association, lambasting England's football governing body, and calling his punishment "a disgrace."

Mourinho was fined £50,000 and given a suspended one-match ban by the Football Association after criticizing Premier League officials during his side's loss against Southampton in early October.

"I’m happy that I don’t have an electronic tag," Mourinho quipped on Thursday. "£50,000 is a disgrace. The possibility of getting a stadium ban is astonishing."

Mourinho wasn't just displeased with his own personal punishment, but the apparent lack of response to his adversary, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who reportedly called referee Mike Dean "weak" and "naive" at the end of Chelsea's win over the Gunners.

Conversely, Mourinho told Sky Sports following the Southampton match: "I’m not being offensive but I have to say it for my players and Chelsea supporters. Referees are afraid to give us decisions."

It was for those comments that Mourinho received the fine.

"The difference between afraid and weak and naive is £10,000 and one-match stadium ban," Mourinho explained, visibly bemused. "Afraid costs £50,000. Weak and naive - you can do it."
