The New Orleans Pelicans are in "serious discussions" to sign University of New Orleans product Bo McCalebb, Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com reports.

The 30-year-old was born in New Orleans and went on to become the Sun Belt Conference's all-time leading scorer with averages of 20.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and three assists across a five-year career with the Privateers.

Those collegiate accomplishments, however, weren't enough to land McCalebb an NBA gig. After going undrafted in the 2008 NBA Draft, McCalebb took his talents overseas, where he captured championships in each of the Adriatic, Italian, and Turkish leagues.

The Pelicans could use some depth at point guard as they're dealing with a spate of injuries. Starter Jrue Holiday will be held to a stringent minute restriction until January, while his backup Norris Cole could miss up to six weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Signing McCalebb, however, would necessitate the Pelicans shedding a player from their roster, as they're currently holding the maximum allowable 20 through preseason action. That figure will be trimmed down to 15 or less once the regular season begins.
