Belgium set to snatch world No. 1 ranking from Argentina
A European Championship qualifier victory over Israel on Tuesday will vault an au courant Belgian side above Argentina and Germany into the FIFA rankings top spot.
Quite a rise in fortunes for a nation once ranked 66th in 2009, who now boast the luxury of a star-studded lineup featuring the likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, and Kevin De Bruyne and are poised to be one of the favourites for the Euro 2016.
A victory over Israel in the final match of Group B qualifiers will place Belgium on 1,440 ranking points, 11 clear of what Argentina would garner with a victory over Paraguay. Germany will register a points total of 1,388 when the latest rankings are released on November 5th to sit third.
Should Belgium unexpectedly lose to Israel, they could potentially drop to fifth behind Portugal and Colombia.
Despite having already qualified for next summer's continental tournament, Marc Wilmots' side will be looking to capture the three points against Israel, giving the team a chance at acquiring a top seed, joining France, Spain, Germany, England, and Portugal.
