Clippers' Chris Paul fractures finger during practice, not considered serious

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Clippers appear to have dodged a bullet with an injury to perhaps the most important player on their roster.

Point guard Chris Paul fractured his left index finger during Saturday's practice, the team announced. He won't suit up when the Clippers take on the Charlotte Hornets Sunday at Shenzhen Universiade Center in China.

The injury isn't considered serious, though. The eight-time All-Star will be re-evaluated prior to Wednesday's preseason matchup with Charlotte.

Paul likely would have competed in Shenzhen had it been a regular-season outing, sources tell the Orange County Register's Dan Woike.

In a full 82-game slate last season, Paul averaged a double-double of 19.1 points and 10.2 assists with a player efficiency rating of 26.
