Roger Goodell talks return to L.A., league discipline, play-review problems

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about the NFL's potential relocation of a franchise to Los Angeles, in a press conference Wednesday on NFL Network.

"There's interest in being back in the entertainment capital of the world. But we have to do it right." said Goodell.

With several of the most powerful NFL team owners currently meeting about the possible relocation to L.A., it appears the process is moving forward.

"Obviously there are two potential solutions in Los Angeles as you know. I think it's very positive that we have two alternatives, we have three teams that are interested that have been struggling to get stadiums built in their own communities for not just several years but decades."

Goodell once again spoke about the league's disciplinary process, and how he is "open" to making alterations to the appeal's process in which the commissioner currently wields almost absolute power.

However, he once again reaffirmed his stance against bringing in any third-parties into the appeal process.

"We are not in favor of third-party arbitration with people that have no involvement or understanding of our polices or, frankly, a stake in the future of the NFL. We've been very clear about that, but there are other alternatives."

The commissioner did state that changes to the appeal process could be made without any larger extension of the current CBA, after it was reported that these two things were tied together.

Goodell also spoke about the problems with the league's current play-review system.

The opening weeks of the season have seen several controversies caused by the way the league currently allows plays to be reviewed, Goodell said there was a "lot of obstacles to having every play reviewed," but it would be something the league would look to review in the future.
