DFS: Counterattack - Week 5's Best Contrarian Plays

Crystal LoGiudice / USA TODAY Sports

Here's a look at this weeks top contrarian plays:

QB Tyrod Taylor, Bills (at Titans)

Taylor continues his positive progression as a starting QB, to the point where the 25-year-old has solidified himself as a reliable GPP play.

Owners may choose to fade the Bills play caller this week considering the lack of weapons at his disposal, but Taylor has a dual-threat aspect to his game, giving him additional value as a low-tier QB.

The Titans defense has overachieved early this season and the lack of big play ability on the defensive side of the ball will show when Taylor extends the play outside the pocket and heaves the ball down the field.

RB Mark Ingram, Saints (at Eagles)

After three years, Ingram is living up to his Heisman Trophy-winning hype. The 25-year-old RB has tallied 204 rushing yards in his first four games, setting him on pace to break his career-high 964 rushing yards set a season ago.

C.J. Spiller's return hasn't affected Ingram, who played 20 more snaps than Spiller. Meanwhile, the Eagles have allowed double-digit fantasy points to mediocre RBs three out of four games this season.

WEEK OPP RBS PA
1 Falcons Freeman/Coleman 11
2 Cowboys Randle/McFadden 15
3 Jets Ivory 7
4 Redskins Morris/Jones 14

WR Brandin Cooks, Saints (at Eagles)

Saints QB Drew Brees is back in action, giving DFS owners reason to believe in Cooks again. He is averaging nearly eight targets per week, but has yet to reach the end zone.

In a matchup with the Eagles pegged as one of the higher scoring contests, a Cooks/Brees stack may bear fruit against an Eagles defense that allows the fifth-most fantasy points to WRs.

TE Larry Donnell, Giants (vs 49ers)

Donnell has the potential to explode at any time in this potent Giants offense.

He has hauled in a sub par 15 balls for 119 yards and one touchdown this season, proving his worth as a low value TE. Donnell will get his fair share of targets with the added potential of finding the end zone more than once Sunday night while WR Victor Cruz remains sidelined.
