Auburn dismisses wide receiver D'haquille Williams
Auburn has dismissed wide receiver D'haquille Williams, head coach Gus Malzahn announced Monday.
Coming into the season, Williams was projected to be a top-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Malzahn failed to cite a specific reason for the dismissal.
"When individuals fail to meet the expectations of our program, there has to be consequences," Malzahn said. "I gave D'haquille the chance to prove himself. I am disappointed that it did not work out."
The senior has had a history of off-field issues prior to, and during, his time at Auburn. He was suspended for the Outback Bowl last season after violating unspecified team rules, and after a photo of himself with a black eye was discovered on Instagram.
Then in August, he was again suspended for violating an unspecified team rule.
Last season, Williams had a breakout year, catching 45 passes for 730 yards and five scores. This season, he was only able to manage 12 receptions for 147 yards and one touchdown.
