Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers expressed disappointment about losing his role, but predicts the Merseyside outfit is destined for a promising future under new management.

A day after he was relieved of his duties, Rodgers spoke glowingly of the club he led for three seasons in a statement released through the League Managers Association.

The former Swansea City gaffer expressed his gratefulness to the team's ownership, Fenway Sports Group, for the opportunity they gave him to manage the club, and said he hopes to see the team progress into the trophy-winning team he attempted to build:

I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club. It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years.

I have worked every day to represent the club to the best of my ability, to develop both individual players and a team that the club’s magnificent fans can be proud of.

There have been some very memorable moments during my time at Liverpool and I would like to thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment. The current squad is one in transition, but they have some real talent and are showing a strong sense of togetherness. I expect to see them continue to grow and develop over the coming weeks and I wish them and my successor well for the rest of the season.

The Northern Irishman went on to talk about his respect for the team's illustrious history, and thanked John W. Henry, Tom Werner, and Mike Gordon for their support over the years.

Liverpool will now search for his successor, with reports that ownership is eager to have a new manager in place ahead of the team's Premier League tilt with Tottenham on Oct. 17.
