5 things we learned in Ligue 1 this weekend: Caen and Angers continue shocking starts

With another weekend of Ligue 1 action in the books, we take a look back at five things we learned from the latest slate of matches.

PSG secures three points at both ends of the pitch

Paris Saint-Germain took the three points in a derby of two sides heading in different directions, as star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's brace tied and set the club record for goals as the capital side beat Marseille 2-1 on Sunday at Parc des Princes.

Ibrahimovic scored two penalties to surpass Pauleta's club record for goals, though the lanky Swede's endeavours were only as important as those of his colleague at the other end of the pitch.

Lost in the hoopla surrounding Ibrahimovic's record-setting brace to reach 110 tallies in 137 matches for the hosts were Kevin Trapp's heroic efforts to keep the one-goal margin intact. After a few hiccups in his first month since transferring from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, the German has found his form, allowing only five goals in nine matches, including five clean sheets.

His emphatic second-half penalty save on Abdelaziz Barrada was met with feverish adulation from teammates, and indifference from Rihanna.

Nice hosts Nantes in an action-packed deluge cut short

Proving that OGC Nice is more than just the dazzling individual efforts of Hatem Ben Arfa, Valerie Germain scored a brace to put the south coast side up a goal before Nantes' Adrien Thomasson leveled matters at 2-2 minutes before the interval.

Moments after the interval, referee Fredy Fautrel grabbed his fishing rod and headed for the locker room, abandoning the match in the middle of a massive orange-alert storm that has crippled the Alpes-Maritimes region.

The match will be replayed in full at a date yet to be confirmed, with none of the goals from the flooded affair counting towards totals.

Caen and Angers continue to surprise

As Ligue 1's second-tier sides Lyon, Monaco, and Marseille continue to stutter, and clubs like St. Etienne, Rennes, and Reims appear to lack the consistency to mount a serious top 3 run, Caen and Angers have impressed supporters and pundits alike.

Angers continued their splendid foray into top-flight football with a 1-0 win over islanders Bastia at Stade Jean-Bouin Saturday. The western France side backed up their win over Marseille a week ago with Billy Ketkeophomphone's one-timed tally to leap to second in the table - five points shy of the juggernauts from Paris.

Caen kept pace with fellow minnows Angers with Sunday's 1-0 home victory over St. Etienne, holding on to third place in the table two points clear of Stade Rennes.

Andy Delort continues to impress, as he and Ronny Rodelin have been vital to the Basse-Normandie side's surprising start. The former Wigan man's goal was enough for Caen, who remain the only Ligue 1 side yet to draw a match through the opening nine fixtures.

Lille goal watch 4.0

The north-east side doubled their goal tally in twenty minutes during Friday's victory against a poor Montpellier side. Sofiane Boufal scored his third of the season on a first-half penalty, and Djibril Sidibe chipped in with a 64th-minute goal to secure the result.

Things are looking up for Herve Renard's men, who are now tied with GFC Ajaccio and Nantes for the Ligue 1's standard for goal-scoring futility.

Goals of the Week

This week's matches were littered with penalties and headers contrary to the run of outstanding efforts and brilliant goals during this season's Ligue 1 campaign.

Because of that, this week's honour will go to Mr. Ibrahimovic's club-record 110th goal on his second penalty of the day.
