Manchester United's Michael Carrick to miss Wolfsburg match

Manchester United holding midfielder Michael Carrick is slated to miss Wednesday's Champions League Group B fixture with VfL Wolfsburg.

United manager Louis van Gaal addressed a host of injuries Tuesday, telling reporters that Carrick will not be risked because of concerns over a "minor injury."

The 33-time capped England international joins three other teammates that will not feature Wednesday against the defending Bundesliga runners-up, with Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia also missing out because of lesser injury doubts.

Carrick has appeared in all seven of United's Premier League matches this season, starting five times for a side rich in deep-lying midfield depth following the summer transfers of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
