DFS: 5 Elite Players to Avoid in Week 4

Another week is in the books and a number of players remain unreasonably priced in DFS. Some of these folks may return decent numbers, but why pay the big bucks when it could just as easily go the other way?

Basically, it's buyer beware. Here are five big names that should be avoided in favor of stronger cash game or GPP plays:

QB: Andrew Luck, Colts (at Jaguars)

This looks like a plum matchup. The Jags are bad, and they just got picked apart by Tom Brady and every member of the New England Patriots from LeGarrette Blount to Rob Gronkowski to Keshawn Martin (who?!).

The problem is, Luck hasn't lived up to expectations. The Colts had no business winning against the Titans considering the hideous first three quarters. Luck has thrown seven interceptions in three games; he had 16 in all of 2014.

Week Opponent Yds TDs INTs
1 Bills 243 2 2
2 Jets 250 1 3
3 Titans 260 2 2

Maybe he rights the ship against the Jaguars, but considering every quarterback other than Aaron Rodgers is available for less, Luck isn't worth it. Leading the league in interceptions is not the accolade he was aiming for.

And considering Luck is not a given to even play on Sunday, there are many safer bets.

RB: Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks (vs. Lions)

Like Luck, Lynch should have a strong showing in Week 4. The Lions got crushed by Adrian Peterson in Week 2 but held C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman in check in Week 3 -- though that probably says more about Denver's running game than Detroit's run D.

Lynch, though, has had a rough start to the season (128 yard rushing through three weeks) and is nursing an injured hamstring that could limit him, or even keep him out of the game. You're better off going big for Peterson or Jamaal Charles, or going wholly mid-tier to spend up elsewhere.

WR: Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, Broncos (vs. Vikings)

Neither Thomas nor Sanders are poor options, but value can be found in many other places at WR. First of all, Julio Jones is matchup proof and Odell Beckham has woken up. Neither of those guys has much competition atop their respective depth charts.

With Denver hopeless at RB, these wideouts have had to pick up the slack, and Peyton Manning has slowly gotten his groove back. From week to week, however, he's more likely to continue spreading the ball around. Thomas and Sanders are more valuable in real life than in DFS.

TE: Tyler Eifert, Bengals (vs. Chiefs)

After an excellent opening week against the Raiders, it's been a story of diminishing returns for Eifert. He was only targeted three times in Week 3's win against the Ravens where quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns.

Week Receptions Targets Yards TD
1 9 12 104 2
2 4 5 49 1
3 0 3 0 0

Eifert has talent, and Dalton has favored him in the past, but he's effectively being yo-yoed. A.J. Green has re-emerged as Dalton's favorite target, and until Eifert's cost goes down or consistency goes up, he's best to avoid. This is especially true against a Chiefs defense that hasn't been kind to tight ends.
