With Thompson absent, Cavs add Michael Dunigan for training camp

Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

Tristan Thompson's absence from Cleveland Cavaliers training camp has provided an opportunity for Michael Dunigan.

The Cavs listed Dunigan on their training camp roster Monday, giving the team the maximum allowable 20 players. Thompson, a restricted free agent who wasn't present for media day Monday, won't count as a member on the roster until the sides agree to a contract.

With the Cavs working four players back from injury, Dunigan provides some additional depth for the frontcourt in practices and preseason games, at least until Thompson shows up.

A 26-year-old Oregon product, Dunigan spent the 2012-13 preseason with the Memphis Grizzlies but didn't see much action. He played professionally in Israel, Estonia, Italy, Ukraine, Australia, Philippines, South Korea, and the D-League, spending most of last season with the Cavs' affiliate in Canton.

In 24 D-League games, Dunigan averaged 11.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 57.3 percent from the floor.
