Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout probably isn't going to win the American League MVP award for a second straight season, but that doesn't mean the 24-year-old has stopped doing extraordinary things in the outfield on a regular basis.

During the fourth inning of Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners, the four-time All-Star made one of the season's most sensational catches, scaling the outfield wall at Angel Stadium and reaching well beyond the fence to rob Jesus Montero of a three-run homer.

"It was pretty crazy, once I caught it, looking up at the replay and seeing the reaction by my teammates," Trout told reporters. "It was a pretty special moment and a big play of the year."

Trout's defensive chops came under scrutiny last season, when he earned lousy grades from both ultimate zone rating and defensive runs saved. This summer, though, Trout mostly silenced his critics, earning at least average grades from the two metrics without committing an error in 1,284 2/3 innings heading into Saturday's contest.
