Revolution's early playoff berth denied after draw against Union

The New England Revolution will have to wait before officially qualifying for the MLS post-season after drawing 1-1 with the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium.

A Lee Nguyen penalty opened the scoring for the Revs in the first half, before Union forward Fernando Aristeguieta found an equalizer in the 66th minute. Despite creating plenty of chances from set pieces and from open play, the Revs just could not find a go-ahead goal once more and settled for a single point instead.

New England could have qualified for the playoffs three games early with a win over the Union.

With the draw, New England now has 47 points in 31 games, level with the Columbus Crew and behind the New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference.

Last season, the Revs qualified for the playoffs and won the Conference Final, before losing to the LA Galaxy in the MLS Cup final.

Now, the Revs will look to secure a berth next weekend against the Chicago Fire.
