DFS: WR2s to Target in Week 4

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Playing on the same team as an elite receiving threat can pay dividends for the lesser-heralded receiver on the team. He often sees easier coverage assignments while racking up comparable targets to the team's top option.

Here are three WR2s to look at for Week 4:

Marvin Jones, Bengals (vs. Chiefs)

The Bengals have made A.J. Green one of the best receiving threats in the league. The attention that Green warrants from the defense has paid dividends for his teammates, with players like Tyler Eifert becoming a household name in DFS.

With many comparably priced TEs flooding the market, a less-heralded receiver might bring a higher ceiling at a cheaper cost. A name to watch in Cincinnati is fourth-year WR Jones, who has seen his targets and yardage increase in three straight games and has two TDs on the year.

Kansas City has a formidable pass defense - but with Green the primary focus, Jones should fly under the radar. At 17.9 yards per catch, Jones has made the big play when given the chance and KC has given up a ton of points to WR2s; Nate Washington had a 105-yard Week 1 and Emmanuel Sanders put up 87 yards and two TDs in Week 2.

Michael Crabtree, Raiders (at Bears)

Amari Cooper was touted as being an NFL-ready talent coming out of the 2015 draft and he hasn't failed to make his mark on the league; the rookie already has 290 yards on 20 receptions with a TD in his first three games while leading the Raiders to a 2-1 record. Clearly, Cooper will be a massive part of the team's identity moving forward.

Lost in how good Cooper has been is the effect that he's had on Crabtree, another highly-drafted wide-out. The 2009 10th overall pick has actually been the eighth-most targeted WR in the league this year (Cooper is 10th) and has had one truly elite performance already this season, posting 111 yards and a TD against Baltimore.

A Week 4 tilt with the Bears is the type of match-up that should make bargain hunters drool. Crabtree will come at a much cheaper cost than Cooper but should see a similar level of usage. The Bears defense has been porous, so Crabtree could be a difference maker in GPPs.

Roddy White, Falcons (vs. Texans)

Here are Roddy White's stats from the first three weeks:

Tgts Rec Yards TD
Week 1 8 4 84 0
Week 2 1 0 0 0
Week 3 0 0 0 0

White had six straight seasons of at least 1,150 yards receiving from 2007 to 2012. Despite a downturn in production, he's still a great complement to Julio Jones. For the 34-year-old White, WR2 is a great role for a great player whose abilities are starting to wane - and with Matt Ryan gearing up for what might be his finest season to date, the sky's the limit for Atlanta's offense.

It's not time to panic about White's role in the offense yet. The team is winning and with players like Leonard Hankerson emerging as legitimate catching threats; it's clear that the presence of Jones makes life easier for everyone below him on the depth chart.

White could see a response similar to how the Seahawks handled disgruntled TE Jimmy Graham. After only one catch in Week 2, the 'Hawks targeted Graham with eight passes, shining a spotlight on their star and quieting any questions about his role. Atlanta will look to keep everyone happy too; look for White to be heavily targeted versus Houston.
