Report: Hawks looking to add Earl Barron

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks intend to sign journeyman center Earl Barron, Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reports.

A roster spot opened up for the Hawks after veteran shooting guard Jason Richardson announced his retirement on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old Barron first broke into the NBA a decade ago as a member of the Miami Heat. Since then, Barron has logged time with six other NBA teams, while also seeing stints in China and Italy, along with the Developmental League, which is where he played last season.

Barron tore up the D-League to the tune of 20.3 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep last season. He flashed signs of developing into a credible floor-stretching big who could also rebound at a respectable rate.

His strong showing in the D-League allowed Barron to parlay his performance into a two-month stint with the Phoenix Suns, where he averaged two points and 1.8 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per game.

With the Hawks, Barron will have the chance to compete for their last roster spot along with DeQuan Jones, Lamar Patterson, Terran Petteway, and Edgar Sosa.
