Alexandre Pato reveals Manchester United made last-minute offer for him in August

Sao Paulo forward Alexandre Pato could have been wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United after the English outfit made him an offer just two hours before the transfer window closed at the end of August.

Pato, 26, was a rumoured transfer target for a number of European outfits but opted to stay in Brazil instead of making the jump across the pond for a taste of the Premier League.

"I won't lie, two hours before closing I had a very nice offer from Manchester United," Pato told SporTV as quoted by ESPN. "I was expecting it, but I only knew after when they commented. But my focus now is here. I am working to do my best and possibly stay at Sao Paulo."

The former AC Milan player left European football and returned to the comfort of his home country, Brazil. He joined Corinthians after enduring a slew of injuries and dips in form in Italy, which also cost him his spot in the Brazilian national team.

But, he was loaned to Sao Paulo in 2013 and has enjoyed a renaissance as of late, scoring nine goals in 20 games last season in the Brasileirao. Has "the Brazilian Duck" thought about returning to Europe? Once again, Pato gave an honest answer.

"I won't lie to you that I think yes (about the future)," Pato explained. "I see with my family, with the people closest to me, we talk about what will happen, how it will happen, what will be next year. It's only a few months, we don't count December, so it's not a long time."

"But I am working, I'm very focused on Sao Paulo, I can't stop thinking of my future, but my focus is Sao Paulo," he reaffirmed. "I would really like to stay, but that doesn't depend only on me. I have to do my work, my agent and my family take good care of these things, they want the best for me and the club, and I'm very professional, I always work focused, trying my best not to think."
