Sebastian Giovinco continued to make his case for Major League Soccer's MVP award on Saturday, scoring a pair of goals to help Toronto FC to a 3-1 win against the Colorado Rapids at BMO Field.

The Atomic Ant also added an assist in a game played under heavy rainfall, the first of five home games in succession for the Reds.

Giovinco opened the scoring in the 14th minute after making a half-field run all by himself. He then beat goalkeeper Clint Irwin with a low-driven shot for his 18th goal of the year.

His second goal, scored just a few short minutes later, was a thing of beauty, crafted by the foot of Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio, whose back-heel flick found the streaming Italian forward in space. Giovinco took a few touches and curled his shot past Irwin with ease for goal number 19.

Giovinco also added an assist to his tally later in the first half, finding Damien Perquis off a corner kick, bringing that tally to 14. With one more goal and one more assist, Giovinco would become the first player in MLS to score 20 goals and notch 15 assists.

Up 3-0, Toronto FC conceded a goal off a corner kick soon after via Dillon Powers, and while the Rapids did create a number of attempts on goal in the second half, that 3-1 scoreline would hold until the end of the match.

Giovinco won man of the match, as expected, and is now one goal behind Columbus Crew striker Kei Kamara (20) in the MLS Golden Boot race, too.
