The news continues to get worse for Jack Wilshere during his attempts to overcome a leg fracture.

The Arsenal midfielder is set to miss a further three months when he undergoes surgery on his left fibula after the club's medical staff determined the healing process was not meeting expectations, the team announced.

The procedure, which will include implanting a small plate in his left fibula, is expected to take place in the coming days in London.

"The decision to intervene has been taken quickly after regular reviews by specialists, who feel that Jack's scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected," the team said in a statement.

Prior to Tuesday's revelation, Wenger said that Wilshere had suffered a setback and seem to think it was anything to worry about when he described it as a "little setback."

The ailment is yet another injury to add to a long list, as Wilshere most recently was forced to miss five months last season when he hurt his ankle in a FA Cup match against Manchester United.
