Craig Sager vows to return to NBA sideline in 2015-16
Craig Sager is hoping to return to an NBA sideline during the 2015-16 season.
The Turner Sports sideline reporter has spent the summer undergoing chemotherapy and receiving a bone marrow transplant in his fight with leukemia. The beloved fixture of national broadcasts has lost 50 pounds and all of his hair, but a positive outlook from his doctor has him aiming for a return this season, plus an appearance in Rio next summer.
As Sager told KPRC 2 in Houston:
I said, 'The NBA season starts Oct. 27, what are my chances?' He goes, 'Oh they’re good!' I said one more, 'What about the Olympics next summer in Rio?' He said, 'No brainer! I said yes! Yes!'
Sager said previously that he'd like to grow his hair back before returning, but it will matter little to the NBA community what Sager looks like. The outpouring of support from around the sport has been resounding, with teams, broadcasts, and even Gregg Popovich showing the 40-plus-year veteran love.
