Mourinho after Chelsea's 3rd loss: 'The results are the worst ever in my career'

Jose Mourinho's attempts to deflect blame for Chelsea's poor form away from his players can't hide the fact that the defending champions are reeling after eclipsing last season's loss total with Saturday's defeat.

A run of bad luck is the primary culprit, according to Mourinho, who admitted he's generally pleased with the performances from his players despite losing three of the first five league matches.

"We deserved better and played for a better result," Mourinho told reporters. "It’s too heavy for the way the players started the game, finished the game and played during the game.

"Confidence is low, we’re a team with some doubts, about some lucky and unlucky incidents in each game, but I felt the players deserved a better result than we got.

After Saturday's 3-1 loss to Everton, the Portuguese boss finds himself in unfamiliar territory, as Chelsea has endured its poorest start to a season since the 1998 campaign.

"I'm not feeling under pressure. I'm feeling the results are the worst ever in my career," Mourinho admitted.

The main problem, however, appears to be the team's backline, as chelsea's defence has leaked goals. The Blues have averaged more than two goals against per game after letting 12 goals in to begin the season.

For Mourinho, however, the solution is straightforward.

"We need to win a couple of consecutive matches, we need the players to smile again, we need the strikers to score goals, we need the defenders to not make mistakes and be punished, we need confidence," he said.

"Confidence is fundamental and at the moment everything is going against us. The players fight, play, try, like they did, but the reality is that at the moment it’s difficult for them. It’s not easy to play football with the confidence level low."
