Report: Magic close to non-guaranteed deal with Greg Stiemsma

The Orlando Magic are close to signing defense-first center Greg Stiemsma to a non-guaranteed contract, Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN reports.

The 29-year-old Stiemsma spent the 2014-15 season as a seldom-used rim protector with the Toronto Raptors. Almost all of his 66 minutes last season came during blowouts.

Prior to his time with the Raptors, he fashioned himself as a useful backup center with decent shot-blocking instincts. Across four seasons in the league, he has blocked 2.7 shots per 36 minutes played.

The Magic have 13 guaranteed contracts on their roster, which leaves two spots potentially up for grabs. Stiemsma joins Devyn Marble and Melvin Ejim as players on non-guaranteed deals heading into training camp.

However, Stiemsma might be a long shot to make the final roster, as the Magic have plenty of depth at center between Nikola Vucevic, Jason Smith, and Dewayne Dedmon.
