Redskins starter thinks RG3 could be 'really good' in Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Eagles have been floated as a possible destination for Robert Griffin III if the Washington Redskins decide to cut ties with him, and at least one of his teammates believes it could be the perfect match.

Speaking anonymously to ESPN's Josina Anderson, one offensive starter for the Redskins said he could envision Griffin thriving as an Eagle.

"I think he could be really good there," the player said. "That is what he ran in college. That's the type of system that I'm sure he can imagine himself in ... knowing how fast-paced it is, knowing how he can run, seeing what Nick Foles did in it, what Michael Vick did in it ... I think he would definitely thrive."

Asked if he believes Griffin's time in D.C. is nearing an end, the player replied, "I don't know. It would be weird and I would hate to have to prepare against a guy like that. An angry Robert Griffin? I don't know if I want to see that?"

Head coach Jay Gruden announced Monday that Kirk Cousins will open the season as the Redskins' starting quarterback, declaring, "This is Kirk's team." Griffin's Week 1 status was already in jeopardy because of a concussion, but Gruden's comments suggest the quarterback switch isn't temporary.

Given Griffin's injury history and the $16.1 million he's owed next season, the Redskins may have difficulty finding a trade partner should they decide to take that route. They could also decide to release him and take a $6.7-million cap hit, but they would have to wait until he's cleared by doctors before doing so.

"To be honest with you, I don't know how things will be different with Kirk," the player told Anderson of how the offense will change with Cousins at quarterback. "I've played with Kirk in this offense before. We won some games. We lost some games. We lost a lot more games. It's a different style of offense to be honest with you with Kirk in there in terms of having more drop backs more zone reads.

"... I just want to win games at the end of the day. I know (Kirk) can play so, I just want to help him out, and just be a good team for once and eliminate the drama."
