Fantasy: Early-season streaming options
Finding players to fill-in in your starting lineup is something you'll have to deal with during bye weeks, but hopefully isn't a problem heading into Week 1.
It is possible, however, that you drafted early and had players suffer injuries over the last month. Perhaps you're waiting on players like Arian Foster or Todd Gurley to be cleared for action. Or maybe you got caught on the wrong end of a run during your draft, leaving you thin at a particular position.
Below, we identify players who likely went undrafted in your league, but who might be able to step in and start for your team over the first two weeks of the season.
Quarterbacks
Jameis Winston, Buccaneers
Opponents: vs. Titans, at Saints
Winston starts his NFL career against two of the weaker pass defenses in the league. Whether he can be fantasy-relevant in his rookie season remains to be seen, but with all his weapons he should be able to produce quality fantasy numbers in these matchups.
Andy Dalton, Bengals
Opponents: at Raiders, vs. Chargers
No one wants to start Dalton, but his early slate of games isn't overly intimidating. A.J. Green, Tyler Eifert, and Marvin Jones are all back to full health, giving Dalton some hope for 2015.
Tyrod Taylor, Colts
Opponents: vs. Colts, vs. Patriots
Taylor is one of the bigger mysteries heading into Week 1. His rushing ability makes him intriguing in fantasy and he has enough receiving talent around him to succeed. Where there is risk, there might be reward early in the year.
Running Backs
Brandon Bolden, Patriots
Opponents: vs. Steelers, at Bills
LeGarrette Blount is suspended for the Patriots' first game, and the team parted ways with Jonas Gray. Bolden is believed to be the next up in New England, ahead of Dion Lewis, James White, and Travaris Cadet. It's impossible to predict Bill Belichick's backfield plans, but Bolden appears to be next player who will be told to "Do Your Job."
Benny Cunningham, Rams
Opponents: vs. Seahawks, at Redskins
Gurley has been ruled out for the opener, while Tre Mason is questionable with a hamstring injury. Cunningham would have a tough matchup with the Seahawks, but you don't normally find a starting back on the waiver wire in Week 1.
Karlos Williams, Bills
Opponents: vs. Colts, vs. Patriots
The Bills are optimistic LeSean McCoy will be ready for the season opener, and Shady is expressing a similar sentiment, but savvy fantasy owners are preparing for aworst case scenario. If McCoy is held out, rookie Karlos Williams could start for Buffalo against the always generous Colts' run defense.
Wide Receivers
Kamar Aiken, Ravens
Opponents: at Broncos, at Raiders
All the Breshad Perriman hype has disappeared as the first-year receiver has been unable to get on the field due to a knee injury. It doesn't seem like Perriman will be available early in the season, opening the door for Aiken to start across from Steve Smith.
Danny Amendola, Patriots
Opponents: vs. Steelers, at Bills
Brandon LaFell has been placed on the PUP list, leaving a hole in the Patriots' receiving corps. Amendola is the most likely candidate to take over in his absence, and with Tom Brady's suspension nullified, New England's passing attack should be potent right out of the gate.
Leonard Hankerson, Falcons
Opponents: vs. Eagles, at Giants
Roddy White is reportedly expected to return to practice in some capacity this week. That doesn't inspire much confident in his chances of playing in Week 1. If White misses the game, Hankerson will see his role grow significantly in what could be a pair of high-scoring contests.
Tight Ends
Ladarius Green, Chargers
Opponents: vs. Lions, at Bengals
Taking a chance on Green is all about Antonio Gates' four-game suspension. Green will have a month to show he can deliver for fantasy owners and is worth a shot if you're desperate.
Richard Rodgers, Packers
Opponents: at Bears, vs. Seahawks
With Jordy Nelson out for the year, everyone has turned their attention to Davante Adams, but there's a chance that some of Nelson's targets find their way to the team's 23-year-old tight end. If you recall, Jermichael Finley used to do pretty well for himself catching passing in Green Bay.
Ben Watson, Saints
Opponents: at Cardinals, vs. Buccaneers
Jimmy Graham is gone and while most of the early press went to Josh Hill taking over as his replacement, the veteran Watson has been the one working as the first-team tight end. His upside isn't high, but there is weekly touchdown-potential here.
Defense/Special Teams
Colts DST
Opponents: at Bills, vs. Jets
The Colts' defense doesn't play a team with an established quarterback until the Patriots in Week 6. Indy's offense is going to win games by themselves, which should give their defenders an opportunity to be aggressive. The addition of linebacker Sio Moore doesn't hurt either.
Browns DST
Opponents: at Jets, vs. Titans
The Browns' defense is an underrated unit, which features one of the league's best secondaries. Meanwhile, the Jets and Titans don't exactly have offenses that keep defensive coordinators up at night.
Vikings DST
Opponents: at 49ers, vs. Lions
The Vikings' schedule gets more difficult after these games, but their Week 1 matchup with the 49ers is enticing following San Francisco's nightmare of an offseason. Minnesota has an emerging young defense that could be worth playing throughout the year.
