Jonathan Walters feels undervalued at Stoke City following poor contract offer

After recently rejecting a bid from Norwich City, Stoke City is looking to secure the services of striker Jonathan Walters for the future.

Its first contract offer, though, has been rebuffed by the Republic of Ireland international, who is seeking a deal that better reflects his improvement during his five years at the Britannia Stadium.

"In my eyes, if they valued me, it would be there but it's not," he told BBC Radio Stoke, after scoring at Luton Town to help the Potters into the League Cup third round.

"People behind the scenes know why. I'll leave it with my agents and my lawyer. I can't really go too much into it."

Before his move to the Midlands in 2010, Walters led a nomadic career, playing for nine different clubs before being signed by then-manager Tony Pulis.

"I've been here five years and improved every year," he said. "I can give you every stat for the past five years and I'm probably in the top two for everything."

Walters hopes a new deal can be completed, but wants to leave it for those behind the scenes to sort out while he prepares for Saturday's visit from West Brom.
