Seahawks' Bennett sounds off on Sam Bradford, Ryan Tannehill, Brian Hoyer

Michael Bennett's job is to attack the quarterback, and he took it to heart in a verbal tirade against three of the league's starters Tuesday.

Bennett has excelled at defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks over the past two years, and spent a large portion of the summer complaining about his current contract.

The Seahawks star ripped into Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, noting that it was absurd for him to receive a $95-million extension in March.

"Quarterback is the only position in the NFL where you could be mediocre and get paid. At every other position, you can't be mediocre," Bennett said on 710 ESPN Seattle. "If I was Ryan Tannehill and the most games I ever won was seven, how could you get ... $100 million for that? I guess that's the value of the position."

He also took aim at Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford, who publicly complained after taking a hit to the knees from Baltimore Ravens star outside linebacker Terrell Suggs in a preseason contest Saturday. Bennett was decidedly unimpressed.

"I respect Tom Brady because when Tom Brady gets hit, he gets up and is like, 'Good job. Good hit.' He gets back in the huddle and he holds his own like a man," Bennett said. "We've got guys in the NFL crying because they get hit. 'Oh, Suggs hit me and I'm running the read-option.'"

And then there's Brian Hoyer, who was recently named the Houston Texans' starting quarterback - a story Bennett believes received far too much attention.

"And then it's like, you're sitting at home and there's breaking news and it says that Brian Hoyer is the quarterback of the Texans," Bennett said. "I'm like, who cares? That's not breaking news. It's really not breaking news."

One of the league's most candid interviews, Bennett will likely continue to express himself unreservedly while seeking a new contract ahead of the upcoming season.
